Drywall - house renovation
Issues encountered
Issue
---
Too thick mud when taping, leading to lumps and awkward premature drying
Tape sliding when trying to squeeze out "too-thick" mud leading to all kinds of issues
Doing corners, when finishing one side, it leaves a lump on the other side
Trying to knock off the aforementioned lump with the blade occassionally caused rips in the tape
Uneven surfaces and not having the proper blade size; for example for a 6 inch wide location, both a 4 inch and a 12 inch blade are very hard to get desired results
Sanding a joint down too much reveals the tape and even rips the tape sometimes, leaving a horrible fuzzy location
Tips
1. When affixing joint tape for the first time, use a thin mixture. This allows it to act more like a fluid glue and won't be difficult to work with.
Allow to dry and then move back to a thicker mixture if you want.
2. Use a higher color temperature (~5000k+) bright light to illuminate your work location. This helps massively in seeing issues
